Nepali opening batter Aasif Makes 58, Sompal 48
Kandy, 04 September: Nepal batters offered resistance against India in their Asia Cup match on Monday, scoring 230/10 in 48.2 overs.
Opening batters Aasif Sheikh and Kushal Bhurtel forged a 65-run stand inside 10 overs, thanks to India’s poor fielding. India dropped at least three catches, one each by Shreyas Iyer, Virat Kohli and Ishan Kishan.
Earlier, India won the toss and asked Nepal to bat first. Ravindra Jadeja bowled well to claim three wickets while conceding 40 runs in his quota of 10 overs. Mohammad Siraj gave away 61 runs in 9.2 overs, taking three wickets. Mohammad Shami, Shardul Thakur and Hardik Pandya took a wicket, each.
For Nepal, apart from Aasif Sheikh’s solid 58 runs from 97 balls, Sompal Kami made 48 while Bhurtel played well for his 38 in 25 balls. Airee contributed 29 runs while Gulshan Jha also made 23.
India has to win the match against Nepal to qualify for the Super 4 stage.
